Most Valuable Customers

Andy Steggles, CIO, Risk Insurance Management Society

We at Higher Logic recognize Andy Steggles, CIO of Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and self-proclaimed Web 2.0 advocate as one of our Most Valuable Customers. Andy has worked tirelessly to educate and disseminate his knowledge of web 2.0 and social media tools to the not-for-profit community and in so doing, has given Higher Logic a great deal of visibility which we greatly appreciate.

Andy exemplifies an association executive that is focused on finding innovative new technology-based methods of communicating with members and empowering members to be self-sufficient in their association work. As one of Active Matter's best customers, we are thrilled to work with Andy and RIMS again through Higher Logic. Andy has become more than a customer, he has become our partner in helping not-for-profits see new ways of doing association business online. With leadership roles in New York Society of Association Executives and American Society of Association Executives, Andy has taken his knowledge of associations and gone to a whole new level by establishing his very own. We are pleased to support his efforts in launching SNAMA--the Social Networking and Media Association by donating our Connected Community™ software, social strategy and creative services to help launch SNAMA.

Favorite Higher Logic Product:

"I absolutely love the Directory 2.0 product. It really capitalizes on social networking opportunities and leverages the content of our AMS beautifully. When a member looks at another member's profile and it says "You may remember Bob from the 2002 Claims Management workshop you both attended in New York." - you know you've integrated pretty well. Even if the member has never met the person, just suggesting "Things you have in common with Bob:" such as certifications, professional interests or perhaps a book you've both purchased, gives our members the ice breaker they need to reach out and say hello. The community groups section of the directory is also very powerful, it allows members to create groups around any interest or topic they desire. This means the groups are championed by the members vs. being forced upon them by the association. One of the most impressive features is the centralized blogging platform which addresses the concerns of the association by empowering the members to set the permissions for their respective blog posts. Over all, I would say the Directory 2.0 product is a smash hit with our members, they love it."

Best Part of Working for a Non-Profit:

"I've worked for RIMS for the past 9 years and thoroughly enjoy it. There is such a great sense of community working for associations and non-profits which provides the sort of rewards that are difficult to find in the for-profit world. I used to work in the Financial Services industry back in the UK, and there is a world of difference between the for-profit and non-profit cultures. It's great not to be driven by the bottom line but by a meaningful mission which doesn't just satisfy increased shareholder value but instead focuses on member engagement and ultimately, satisfaction."

Favorite Pasttime:

"I've never been particularly good at most conventional sports (soccer, hockey etc.) but am a huge fan of more non-conventional sports. At one point I had a hang-gliding license which is a ton of fun but have also done river surfing (crazy sport), paragliding, scuba-diving, skydiving, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, bungee jumping and so on... the only sport I didn't do which I always wanted to do was "BASE" jumping: (sky diving but instead of jumping out of a plane, you jump of a stationary object (cliff or building etc.). Out of all of them, I think my favorite must be snowboarding (not too crazy, but a lot of fun)."

Favorite Book:

The World is Flat

Favorite Movie:

Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels

Life's Dream:

To be healthy, happy and have a great quality of life.
